Go Sushi!

You are retired? Damn, you are such a lucky person. As much as money is not everything, money is definitely something. Imagine if you are craving for abalone or sharkfin but your wallet only has a penny.

Torturing isn’t it? That is exactly what I faced. I am not talking about the retirement part but the no money part. My wallet was kind of dried off at that time but I am craving for Japanese food.

Nike said “Just do it”. TikkoSS said just go for it! Go for what? Go for Go Sushi and worry about money later. What important is the companion rather than paper notes right? Not to forget , listen to what your belly’s whisper too.

I found this restaurant when I needed to send some documents using DHL. Yes.. it is just a few shop away from DHL. If you cannot find this restaurant, call for DHL hotline :P . Parking is normally not a big problem. The service is kind of fast too. Probably because I did not go during peak hours :)

Like I said, I need to watch out what I order or else I will end up washing the plates for one month to settle the bill.

So, I decided to order only few dishes this time. Just enough to ease my Sushi cravings. I ordered Inari Sushi RM 4.90, California Roll RM 5.90 and Norway Maki RM 16.90. Maybe I am too hungry but all the food that I ordered are just so yummie.

I am sure many will said, “TikkoSS, you only ordered few dishes. Enough meh?” Of course NO! I also ordered Tori Soba RM 16.80. Don’t ask me if the Soba is good as I only ordered to take photos. Hahaha. Nah… just kidding only.

With Ocha RM 2 as my drink, I only spent approximately RM 50 for this meal. Good or Bad? Cheap or Expensive?? Why not you determine yourself but personally I enjoy my time there!

Food Tasting @ Cheng Ho Court

Many many many years ago, human kill for a simple reason, FOOD. Many many years later, human can do a lot of things for food too! Of course, not to the killing extend laa. I am one of them. I blog for FOOD. Eh.. more like I blog because of food. FREE food sometimes.

This time I get free invite for food tasting at Cheng Ho Court Chinese Restaurant. Yea, I have been here before and that is why I made myself available this time because I really really miss the food here.

It might look red from the outside but it is definitely not because of Chinese New Year. The mandarins and angpows and pamelo are just for decorations. More like to rejuvenate the CNY ambience.

I was served with 10 course meals. There is only 9 photos below because the other one it already ended up in my stomach! I am not going to tell you what it is and let you keep guessing.

First dish: Deluxe Hot and Cold Combination

This dish takes slightly longer to prepare. There are varieties of ingredients which include seafood, fish balls, mushrooms, eggs and vegetables and many more. If you never been to ala Chinese style restaurant, you have to control yourself not too eat so much at the beginning of the dinner. That is because the best is yet to come :P

Second dish: Braised Shark Fin Soup with Dried Scallop and Crab Meat

Shark lover? Too bad! Shark Fin is my all time favorite. How can I miss this when there are scallops and crabmeat involves. Just added a little black vinegar and it will be perfect for me.

Third Dish: Deep Fried Crispy Chicken

Ok. This is not KFC but it is a homemade deep friend crispy chicken. The chicken is marinated with herbs before it was deep fried. It might taste a little dull especially near the chicken breast but with salt + lime + assam, I am sure you are going to crave for it once you try it.

Fourth dish: Deep Fried Garoupa with Sweet and Sour Sauce

Normally, I am not a fan of boney fish but after deep dried, all the bones seems like edible and crunchy. If only plainly fried, the fish will be too dry. With sweet and source sauce, many kids love this dish.

Fifth dish: Yin Yang Prawn

Why want to resort in one style of prawns when you can have best from both worlds. Boiled prawns with mayonnaise are my real preference as compared to butter fried prawns. Both are equally good and you only pay for single price :)

Sixth dish: Braised Three Varieties of Mushrooms with Seasonal Vegetables

Common dish as you can easily find this in any Chinese restaurant. Personally, I love all the mushrooms since I have been mushrooming (leisuring) at home most of the time.

Seventh dish: XO Fried Rice

In all normal 10 course meals, the rice dish is cooked with salted fish or in Yang Chow style. This rice dish is uncommonly special when they cooked with XO sauce.

Eighth dish: Chinese Pan Cake with Red Bean Mochi

Mochi is famous Japanese dessert and Chinese Pan Cake is traditional Chinese delicacies with stuffed kaya. The combination of both tastes super yummy.

Nine dish: Golden Fish Dumplings.

Of all the dishes, I find this dessert is very creatively made. Instead of round snow moon cake, it was molded into golden pink fish shapes. In Chinese, fish is believed to bring good luck and fortunes to the righteous person. Not all fish tho. Definitely not salted fish for sure.

Do give it a try and make sure you pre-book in advance. Else there is a high possibility that you missed this chance very soon.

Grand Imperial Restaurant

Chap Goh Meh, the 15th day of Chinese New Year is around the corner. Chinese New Year almost coming to an end. For those of you who still short of angpow, you still have few days to catch up. For those of you who still have itchy hand, find your “kaki” and start to gamble. Hehe..

Not trying to praise myself but I don’t gamble. I know many other bloggers will shoot at me when I say it but I have better explanation on that. Honestly, I don’t gamble! In fact, I don’t know how to gamble but I just know how to win money. Hehe..

Ok. Maybe there are a lot of my readers are still underage so I will cut the crap about gambling and talk on more appropriate topic, UNO card game?.. Ops no way! I mean FOOD. Which place this time? It is Restoran Grand Imperial in One Utama.

The name is already indirectly hinting that this place is slightly pricy, high class, nicely decorated, good service and GOOD FOOD too. I’m not trying to apple polish this restaurant and they did not give me any discount either when I write about this. So it is only pure honesty.

This is the place where a lot of family decided to have their reunion dinner. Same goes to my family. Don’t complain that it is too late to write a reunion dinner post when Chap Goh Meh is just few days away. Better late than never right?

What’s good over here? Lou Sang again? Er.. oh yea. This is my 8th times of Lou Sang. We, including my nephew and niece are involved in tossing the Lou Sang every year. My nephew really tossed so high that some of it “fly” into my camera back. Ewww..

I know Lou Sang is also called Yee Sang but this Yee Sang does not have Yee (Fish). The smart chef is smart enough to realize that many don’t like raw fish but they like raw scallops instead. That is also why I find this yee sang is remarkably special.

That is seriously only the appetizer. It is similar to starter for 3 or 5 course meals in western world. My mom ordered a lot a lot a lot of food for 5 adults.  She ordered:

  • Giant Garoupa with Garlic
  • Pan Fried Japanese Kurob
  • Braised Golden Coin Sharkfin
  • Whole Abalone (5Head)
  • Claypot Rice with Chinese Wine
  • Double Boild Hasma with Almond
  • Nian Gao & Lotus Paste Pastry
  • *few that I missed out..

What strike me are these 3 dishes, the preserved meat which include duck, pork, chinese sosej and sosej, whole Abalone (5Head), claypot rice with Chinese wine. Honeslty, I don’t quite like the taste of the preserved meat. Slightly too salty for me but I guess that is the original taste of preserved meat. Lol

The combination of clayport rice with 5 head abalone mushroom is just perfect. Personally, I feel surprise that abalone got 5 head (To me, it looks like no head at all?). The fragrant rice that cooked with wine looks like nothing special but it actually tastes really good. It is filling too. Hehe..

Finally the dessert, Nian Gao (Year Cake) & Lotus Paste Pastry. This is the first time that I try it and I love it straight away. The Nian Gao  is added with shredded coconut right after they steam it. NICEE.. and everyone is served with sea coconut and longan.

Poor Mom has to pay RM 787 for all 5 adults and 2 kids. I am glad that mom really enjoyed the companion and the laughter that we shared among us.

Restoran Green View

Global warming? I bet you heard about it. What are we going to do then? Nothing? Arr.. don’t be selfish. At least you can use green bag and do less waste discharge. Or even eat green vegetables perhaps.

I do my part when I become herbivore for once at Vegetarian Family Home but today I am just going to talk about GREEN. Not Vegetarian related but Restoran Green View instead.. hahaha..

Green View, Green chair, Green vest? Oh yea..quite impressed with the cleanliness but congested with crowd sometime. Nothing special in terms of the restaurant décor but this restaurant is probably one of the brightest restaurants that I ever visited.

I am not a doctor but many claimed that my posts are making them HUNGRY. Probably my posts have some level of hormone activator or worm activator. WORM ACTIVATOR? Oh yea.. that is to activate the worm in ur stomach to speed up your digestion process.. lol.

No doubt that this post going to make u hungry too. If you are a Shark Lover, try not to boycott me because I am a shark lover too. Trust me, just that I have different way of expressing it. By eating it :P

Am I cruel? The sharks die because of us. So, if we don’t eat them, their graves are probably in dustbin rather than toilet bowl. But at least the journey is through our colon first J , right?

The dish below is called scramble egg with shark fin. Anything special? Beside a bit dry, I would say that any dish related to shark fin is my favorite. Shark fin soup is another example. Scramble Egg + Lettuce + homemade chili sauce, taste refreshing and slightly spicy.

If you are still not hungry, don’t worry? That is just the appetizer. Now is the time for the highlight, the sweet and sour BIG crabs. When I mentioned BIG, they are really BIG.

I ordered only 2 BIG crabs and I hardly even finish it. If you love gravy, you will definitely like this dish. The dish is served with homemade bun. Dip with the gravy and I can guarantee that you will love even more.

Ohh before I forget, this dish is one of the restaurant specialties. Of course there is another dish that I like. The King Prawn Noodles. Remember I tried the similar noodles in Sakura – Since 1977 and Sang Kee Steamfish before?

This is another example of good noodles. Taste close to what I have tried before but the way of cooking is slightly different. I will not tell u more about this dish but want you to tryout yourself (hint: my spying on other table concluded that many customers order this too)

The King Prawn Noodle picture looks small? Don’t complaint! I do it on purpose so that it will shines the BIG CRAB pictures. Hahahaa. Like usual I don’t waste my food. So I owe a big thank you to my bottomless stomach. Hehe.. I really finish all the dishes and I cannot believe it myself.

I paid about RM 231 for this meal. I know many will shout this is crazily expensive but I tell you this is reasonable. Reasonable? Yea.. You should see the food portion and balance with the size of the BIG PRAWNS and BIG CRABS.

Well, I don’t do it every day else it will dry me off but no harm trying right?

Sakura – Since 1977

Sakura or cherry blossom is the flower of cherry trees which are indigenous to East Asia countries including Japan, Korea and China.

Yea, I know you are familiar with Sakura especially in Japan but we also have Sakura in Malaysia. Sakura flower in Malaysia?

Nah.. I meant Sakura Café and Cuisine. A halal café serving local Malaysian food founded in 1977.  Let me be direct to you, parking will be a big challenge at this place – in Jalan Imbi.

Smokers? No worrries. The café is split into smoking and non-smoking zone but of course non smokers get to enjoy the cozy and romantic air-conditioned ambience.

What the specialties here? Honestly, I don’t know.

After spying at what many have eaten, I ordered Braised Shark Fin Soup as appetizer, King Prawn Noodle, Salted Egg Crab(s) and Nasi Bojari as main course and a Coconut drink.

3 main course? Shhhh.. that is the secret of maintaining my big and comfy tummy. (It is believed that many love pillow rather than hard bricks – 6pack)

Personally, my spying works well. All dishes I ordered taste really delicious. Wait a minutes, I tried better Nasi Bojari elsewhere. The chicken slightly over-fried but the prawn and the beef tastes spicily sweet :) .

The salted egg crab and king prawn noodles are nicely done. The salted egg crab taste better with a few dips of chili sauce and the big prawn is really BIG. More importantly, the king prawn noodles is the taste that I’m always craving for.

The shark fin soup, this one taste better than most Chinese restaurant or I should say different style of preparing. A little vinegar makes the taste even better. I will come back again for the sharkfin soup (poor shark :( )

Although pillow is good, there is a price to pay. This time, I spent about RM 119.35 to maintain my tummy from shouting for food. So, be prepared if you dream of a tummy like mine.
