WangFuJing – The Food

Did you know that ancient people secured food through two methods, hunting and gathering and agricultural? Due to civilization and globalization, lands become very limited for agricultural activities, mostly filled with modern buildings.

Hunting is proven working for centuries. Great method should be cultivated to prevent extinction. That is why, TikkoSS always hunt for food to feed his fat.

If you follow my blog, you must have come across Food Hunting in KimChiLand (part 1/2) and Food Hunting in KimChiLand (part 2/2) before. This is another food hunting but in different land, in “Pirate”land.

Not only Wang Fu Jing Famous is a famous shopping street, this place is a heaven of oriental food. If you are a big eater with bottomless stomach like me, you can easily get it filled here with various local and traditional food.

Do not walk on the main street as you will only find fast food restaurants or high class cafés. Try on back alley. If you are not adventurous enough or have a weak stomach, please bring along your stomachache medication :P

Please stop reading this if you are in diet mode or hungry. The following food hunt evidences will definitely help anorexic to build their desire to eat more! Over here, you get a lot of desserts, drinks, cookies.. more like if you name it, you get it.

If you happen to be here, give it a try on local yogurt. It is sourishly refreshing. If you drink on spot and return the bottle, you save about 1 RMB (~RM0.50) but hey, if you like agriculture, the bottles are just nice as an alternative to vase.

Well, there are plenty of foods here but I can only select few to write. One of the “DO NOT TRY” is the stinky beancurd. From the innocent appearance, I thought it is just a normal fried beancurd with deliciously tempting sauce.

BUT HELL NO.. the smell is awfully disgusting. I tried this stinky stuff before inMalaysiaand I am not a big fan of it although it tastes not too bad when you put in your mouth. Now, is another fear factor moment for me.

DANG..it tastes even worse when you munch it. The feeling is like biting a piece of hard-soft textured S*** in your mouth. YUKS! Make sure you have mouth refresher later..

On the other side of the coins, the BBQ scallops and osyters are a must try. If I remember correctly, I think it is only cost about RMB 5-10 (RM 2.50 – RM 5.00). Cheap and so not the same like the stinky beancurd.

Both are slightly cheesy and spicy but with nice fragrant especially when it is newly barbequed. The seafood here apparently is very fresh although I did not spotted any water source beside the Wang Fu Well .. hehe

If you think that is about it, you are so wrong. The food street does not end here. If you are patient enough to walk around, I bet you will find a lot other interesting delicacies such as china-made meat burger, desserts and pastries. All are equally delicious.

To not shock you, I have removed most of the foods that I ate that day and only show you 1% of food that I tried. :P Some good and some bad .. I mean really bad but hey, it is not the foods but it is the adventure that counts, right?

Breakfast in Prince Hotel KL

It is not a crime if you don’t feel like making your own breakfast. It is just a sign of laziness that flow in your bloodstream. Please don’t blame me for having a luxurious breakfast when I know roti canai in mamak stall is just < RM 1

If you read my post on Prince Hotel & Residence KL, you know that I got a complimentary breakfast here. From my hard scouting work, I managed to locate a breakfast spot on ground floor of this hotel. (Duh.. most of the restaurant located at ground floor)

From far, you can smell the fragrant of the typical Asian and Western breakfast. Entering the restaurant is like entering the heaven of food. You might not realize that especially when every local food is within your reach.

Try when you did not come in contact with Malaysian Food for the few months. The feeling is like ant dying for sugar.

Like many restaurant, this place serves Asian cuisines, Western breakfast, cereals, desserts, drinks etc. If you are still fuzzy about it, there are few dedicated chefs cook for you. Name it and normally you won’t get it, except for omelets, scramble eggs or fried eggs.

As many might know, the kitchen crews will freshly prepare the food in the very early in the morning before the arrival of guests. This is to ensure all the hotel guest will be fed when the clock is ticking at 6am.

I got lucky when I reach just about 30 min before 10 am. All the food is still there. It shows that the chefs are constantly re-filling the food. Yes.. it is a buffet style and that makes me like it even more.

Nasi Lemak is a must. It is served with beef and chicken rendang, sambal, anchovies, eggs and my very own mixture with bacons and pancakes. My hungry stomach got better when I finished up my second round of western breakfast.

Burpp.. Asian + Western + fresh fruits = perfect breakfast. If you are in KL and want to try something extraordinary, make sure you drop by here. It is not about the food but it is the ambience that counts!

Wing Heong – The Best Char Siu, Siu Yok, Siu Kai Ever !

Few days ago, while dating my dreamgirl, all of the sudden the dream turned wild. I know what you are thinking. No..not turning into WET but it turned into terrified horror when I appear to be a victim of drought and famine.

Guess what, in a split second, char siu, siu yok and siu kai dropped from the sky like in the movie Meatballs. Maybe I watch too many movies but the point is, I woke up craving for all these siu siu siu rice.

Reality slapped me when I realized that I am in the middle of Chinaland. So, how to ease my craving? No choice but to flip back at all my photos and I found this place. This is the closest I can get.

Kedai Makanan Wing Heong is always the right choice. Not only it cans fill your stomach easily when you are there physically but it also can ease your cravings when you are not there! Don’t be surprise what you can get in this small hawker stalls.

Cockroaches? Unhygienic place? No no.. this place is surprisingly decent. I will not use the word clean but it is free from ‘uninvited’ small crawling creatures and at least my stomach did not reject the food after that.

Some people have no money to buy a decent food. In my case, I am not rich but I cannot get decent food now even I have some money. This place is definitely affordable. With only about RM 3.50 – RM 9, you can get a lifetime experience to eat the tastiest siu yok or siu kai or char siu freshly chop for you.. imagine that !

Seafood?? Unfortunately this is not a seafood place. Too bad..However, this place serves very delicious assamfish. I might be slightly bias when I said this but I prefer assamfish here as compare to Restoran Peng Heong Hakka Paikut.

On top of that, they also serve “dan tong”. That time, I tried the chicken “sayong choi tong”. Ok.. don’t be critical on me as I don’t know how to translate all these in English. Besides, even if you speak English to them, I doubt they will know.

Both the BBQ chicken and pork are my all favorite here. It is nicely cooked and the chicken is slightly soft and tendery. Not over cook of course as I can still taste the juicy pork. The roasted pork is a must try. The texture is good and I particularly love the crispy skins.

You can call me pork lover but I don’t think I can survive a day without pork. That is why my plan on becoming a vegetarian is just a wishful thinking and never materializes. Food is excellent, price is affordable except slightly warm and definitely worth to give it a try when you are around the vicinity.

Travelling in Golden Class

If you are holding a DSLR, you are prone to unnecessary attention. Is it cute girls asking you to take their photos? Neh.. not that kind of attention but people tend to have a bias views on you.

It is rather hard to hide your skills especially when people thought that you are paparazzi, private detective or maybe you are a nerdy photographer. Not knowing the real you, they will just stopped you and said, “Sir, you are not allowed to take photos in here”.

Hello, I have not even turn on my camera or open my lens cover yet. Duh.. Should I laugh at their ignorant or appreciate their courtesy? This is not a joke, k? This is based on true story that happened when I was in Golden Lounges in various countries.

To avoid superfluous embarrassment, my wife a.k.a iPhone will normally come very handy. What I normally do here is sneaking around all “business” men and catch them with their silly stunts :P . Some caught sleeping with drooling effect :P

Beside free food and drinks, free internet, free bla bla bla, there is a spot which I fail to take photos, the massage room. I really wonder if there is a pretty masseuse on action or just a robotic massage chair?

Remember all long queues before boarding the plane? It is not happening this time. Lucky me because I get to go through the priority lane like any other aging man, pregnant lady or those with kids. Yea I am pregnant and still like kids :P

Not to mention there was an air stewardess stopped me and said, “Sir, you have to queue up in economy lane” and stunt later after saw my ticket. Before the plane board, I managed to camDUCK myself in golden class.

Yea.. I didn’t dress up smartly when I travel, normally with only t-shirt and jeans. Sometime I didn’t even comb my hair or with my unshaved moustache. Why need to dress up? I thought we suppose to travel comfortably? Besides, I have no one to impress as well!

Why I like to travel? Free food! And in-flight entertainment. Before they served me with appetizer, an air stewardess approached me and asked for my age. She claimed that I am very young.

That conversation is not related to this post but would like to emphasize that she claimed “I am very YOUNG” hehe..

There is nothing much to talk about in-flight appetizers. Why? The portion is too small and I finished it before it can activate my taste buds.

But the main course is different! Absolutely different! Most of the time, you get a few choices, Western, Asians or local food. I managed to capture all main courses that I took from all the flights that I board recently.

Of all, there is one special one. Bim Bim Bak. This is a traditional Korean rice with mix vege, meats and pickles (see photos above – the bottom one). I called it “rojak” rice as you need to mix everything in on bowl before you dine it.

All taste equally good but a meal is never complete without dessert. Strawberry Haagan Dazs was served as dessert. Once I tried it, I want more.. hehe.. ice cream always makes me happy and that is why I label it as happy food.

What I do next on the plane? Watch movie and sleep laa.. What else I can do, right? Err.. Ok.. I was disturbed by a group air stewardess as usual.. Not I disturb but being disturbed instead.. wonder why but I am going to censor that in here.

Cafe Shop in Changdeokgung Palace

Starbucks, Coffee Beans, San Francisco Coffee are all the famous hangout places for many. Have you ever thought where will be the emperor hang out places? If I tell you it will be in Café Shop, do you believe it?  No? Why not?

Not all emperors love to see beautiful girls’ performances, operas, traditional musical etc. At least not the emperor that used to reside in Changdeokgung Palace.

In this palace, there is a very classy and modern café shop. Ops..maybe this shop is only build when the palace is made public. Poor emperor.. hehe.. Less one hang out place :P

Summer in Korea can get really really warm. Touring in Changdeokgung Palace during summer can make you feel like you are in Sahara Dessert. To satisfy your thirst and prevent you from getting sunstroke, this shop have both drinks and air condition.

This shop is not just an ordinary café shop. The shop also sells a lot of souvenirs at reasonable price. Souvenirs?  That is a girly stuffs but I am attracted to the antiques, keychains, potteries and many others Korea specials.

Many decided to take a break here before resuming their tour in this palace. Sometime this shop can get really congested but it is a good thing for me as my “Eye Washer”! Google Korean Girls and you will know what I meant.

What special about this shop are the traditional teas. They serve Sikhye, Sujeonggwa, Citron Tea, Chrysanthemum Tea, Mogwa Tea, Saengang Tea and Jujube Tea.  Also they serve some common beverages such as Iced Coffee, Americano, Moca Coffee, Coke etc.

To be honest, I have no clue at all the traditional teas but I think it is worth trying as it only costs about 3000 Won/cup. Just be prepared to use your pointing skills as they might not understand your language.

No point for me to go for common drinks. So, I have decided to go for Sikhye and Jujube Tea. Don’t ask me what it is because I have no clue. I just thought that selecting the first one on the menu board is the easiest and the last one is the easiest to point.

I have to admit that both of the teas are “not my cup of tea” but if I am to visit this place again, I will order it again for sure because the name is kind of cute.

Now you know, sometimes, I am luckier than emperor because I am a freeman that can go anywhere I want and I have an additional place to hangout !
