Watami – Japanese Casual Restaurant

Someone told me that Japanese food is one of the healthiest cuisines known to man? When comes to sushi or sashimi, most of it is not cook.

I wonder how healthy it can be when pollutions happen in just about every corner of the earth but hey, not all Japanese food is served raw.

Because of the word “healthy”, Japanese food can be found in almost every place that I have been so far. No exception to Shanghai.

Not long before this, I spent a lunch in Watami – Japanese Casual Restaurant located inside the Super Brand Mall. If you don’t like raw food and your partner does, here is the right place for both of you.

As suggested by the restaurant name, I ordered something casual. As a start, I ordered garden salad and tofu with bento. The salad is nothing unusual, just few leaves and thousand island sauces.

The tofu, on the other hand, tastes good. I know, tofu is tasteless, but this one, is different. The combination of bento and soy sauce just make it perfect.

This restaurant also serves finger food. In this case, I went for deep fried chicken cutlets and fries. As for this, I really have no clue why Japanese restaurant serves French fries?

With a dip in Thai chili sauce, the chicken cutlets can be really nice.  See, so far all are cooked dishes except the green salad.

Oh yea.. I still cannot resist myself from sashimi rice and a glass of fruit juice. N Udon. N Miso soup too.. hehe.. It seems incomplete if all these are not served on my table.

This time I paid for RMB 124 (~RM 62) and I consider this affordable. Ohh, the restaurant is just few shops away from Long Feng Dim Sum. If you are there, might as well try out for this one too.

My Yum !

Goodbye 2011 and here I come 2012. Beside countdown, many people tend to recap on what happen throughout the whole year or jot down their New Year resolution.

That practice has long gone for me. Not because TikkoSS is getting a year YOUNGER, but because there is nothing much we can do about the past and future is yet to happen.

Fundamental rule of survival, feed the stomach today, worry about tomorrow later. So, instead of sharing what I did in 2011 or plan to do in 2012, let me bring you to food haven.

Before clock ticking 12 like any other day, I decided to spend about RMB 300 (RM 150 ish) on an unforgettable dinner, just to add some flavor to the welcome 2012. Yea..

While busy hunting around this foreign place, I came across this Chinese – Japanese Restaurant, proly about 15 min drive from Jiaozhou Bay Bridge and Qing-Huang Tunnel.

They called themselves Chinese – Japanese Restaurant but beside sushi and sashimi as starter, the chef is a local Chinese and the rest of the food is no where close to Japanese or Chinese.

I cannot remember what is the first thing I did in 2011 but I know what is the last thing I did in that year, a murderer. Oh yea, I ended my last meal in 2011 as carnivore.

First, I am associated with killing goose and sturgeon for goose liver with caviar. Then salmon and king prawn along the process. No regret, I am making a right decision.

If you read my blog throughout 2011, you will learn that TikkoSS is considered as big eater with bottomless stomach. For sure, dishes where people consider as main course are only starter to me.

The menu continues with freshly baked oyster, traditional Chinese – Japanese baked fish, genuine beef cutlets and OPS, green vegetables to so call “balance my diet”.

At this point, I am so close to curse the chef for serving very small potions to young man like me. Of course those food are not even close to feed my belly. I thought the surprises ended here.

But the wise chef read my facial expression acknowledging that I need more food or I will go on strike. To kill my hunger, the chef decided to surprise me with nothing less than..

Medium rare herb steak + Sea cucumber soup + seafood fried rice. He told me, “Exquisite foods never come in big potion BUT I have prepared all these just to complete your dinner!”

Before I leave the restaurant, they served me with two specials desserts, milk pudding and the white fungus with red dates soup.

By spending a reasonable amount, my last day of 2011 is super awesome and I owe a great appreciation to this restaurant for making my night, a remarkably wonderful one.

Go Sushi!

You are retired? Damn, you are such a lucky person. As much as money is not everything, money is definitely something. Imagine if you are craving for abalone or sharkfin but your wallet only has a penny.

Torturing isn’t it? That is exactly what I faced. I am not talking about the retirement part but the no money part. My wallet was kind of dried off at that time but I am craving for Japanese food.

Nike said “Just do it”. TikkoSS said just go for it! Go for what? Go for Go Sushi and worry about money later. What important is the companion rather than paper notes right? Not to forget , listen to what your belly’s whisper too.

I found this restaurant when I needed to send some documents using DHL. Yes.. it is just a few shop away from DHL. If you cannot find this restaurant, call for DHL hotline :P . Parking is normally not a big problem. The service is kind of fast too. Probably because I did not go during peak hours :)

Like I said, I need to watch out what I order or else I will end up washing the plates for one month to settle the bill.

So, I decided to order only few dishes this time. Just enough to ease my Sushi cravings. I ordered Inari Sushi RM 4.90, California Roll RM 5.90 and Norway Maki RM 16.90. Maybe I am too hungry but all the food that I ordered are just so yummie.

I am sure many will said, “TikkoSS, you only ordered few dishes. Enough meh?” Of course NO! I also ordered Tori Soba RM 16.80. Don’t ask me if the Soba is good as I only ordered to take photos. Hahaha. Nah… just kidding only.

With Ocha RM 2 as my drink, I only spent approximately RM 50 for this meal. Good or Bad? Cheap or Expensive?? Why not you determine yourself but personally I enjoy my time there!

Sushi Zanmai @ Sunway Pyramid

Have you been to Japan before? Japan is proly one of my dream countries beside United States. Why? I want to be the first to experience sunlight, country full with techy gadgets, Kawaii Japanese girls and not to forget their sushi too.. !

Why want to go so far to experience sushi when we have plenty of restaurants here that serve pretty decent sushi. Sushi Zanmai is one of it. Every single outlet has almost similar interior and this Sunway branch has no exception too.

Like usual, long queue, many customers but the service is very efficient. Of course like any other Japanese restaurant, you need to wait to be seated. Also, you have the option of sitting near the kaiten belt or normal dining table.

Enough talk on the atmosphere. Let’s check out what I ordered!

Today is a special day considering this is my first time in Sushi Zanmai. So, I decided to dry my wallet to get almost all the nicest dishes here.

I ordered Kinoko Butter Yaki (mixed mushroom), Chawanmushi and my all time favorite Kanpyo Maki and Oshinko Maki. The Kinoko is a combination of various steam mushrooms such as Enoki mushroom, shitake mushroom and White Clamshell Mushroom.. I hope I get the mushroom name right.

The Chawan Mush is slightly special as one of the ingredients is prawn instead of common crabsticks. And Kanpyo Maki and Oshinko Maki are actually “pickles” rolls. Love it so much. Never disappoint me.

Those are just the starter. I then ordered Hotate Teriyaki, Soft Shell Crab Maki, Hana Salmon Maki and Salmon Belly Roll. Surprisingly the hotate teriyaki is a bit dry but the soft shell crab maki is as good as Sushi King.

The Hana Maki Salmon is slightly different from Hana Maki that I tried in Sakae Sushi. In sakae sushi the topping is mayonnaise but over here is served with fish roe. If you like Salmon Belly Roll, go to Sushi Zanmai now because this is a promotional dish for limited time only.

Is that all?

Of course not! Later I ordered, Cha Soba and Dai Dai Roll. Ok, Cha Soba is very new to me. So, I let my friend to have the honor to show me how to eat this. Generally, just dip and stir the cold green tea noodle in the soup provided before you eat it. Isn’t that simple? Silly me.

The Dai Dai role has nothing special but I just like the freshness taste of salmon. Love this dish. Hehe.

Lastly, the dessert! I ordered Macha Monaka and Itachoco Monaka. It is very special indeed. Vanilla or Green Tea ice cream wrap with waffle. Ohh there is a thin layer of chocolate in it too and this makes every single bite is just so deliciously yummy.

How come the sad part, the bill. I spent about RM 115 for this meal. Expensive or not? I will let you all to decide. Personally, I think the price is reasonable because the awesome taste of every single dish just make this meal worth the money.

Now I officially categorize Sushi Zanmai as my all time favorite Sushi Restaurant in Malaysia. You should try it too!

Jogoya Japanese Buffet

Hey, I am hungry! Let’s go and eat? Where?? Anywhere.  What do you plan to eat? Anything. That is a typical conversation that I encounter almost every time when my stomach is paging.. growl growl..

This time I need not worry about it. A few bloggers invited me to Jogoya – Japanese Buffet Restaurant @ Starhill KL. Over here, you can get a broad range of cuisines ranging from Japanese, Chinese, Western, Malaysian and a lot of other styles.

If you are thinking of dieting, forget about it ! The diverse choices of dishes, the freshness of food and the delicate desserts will convince you to eat MORE and MORE.

On top of that, the highest quality and PORK FREE dishes are simply irresistible.

Don’t drool when you see this? I said it because I nearly drool when I spotted on sushi and sashimi. They serve free flow of Salmon, Tuna, Mackeral, Squid, Octopus, Butter Fish, Oyster and Abalone etc.

Sometime the queue can be a little long but I can assure you that it is worth waiting. If you are a fan of sushi, you will find many weird choices of sushi here too. !

Seafood lovers? You don’t need to go to smelly WET market or diving in deep blue sea now. You are free to order crab, prawn, fish, shell fish and many more. All you need to do is just picking a big plate and start selecting.

The seafood are Pre-cook? Nah.. The seafood will only be cooked when you order it. This is to maintain the freshness and quality of the dishes. So, you have a say on how you want it to be done.

Like I said earlier, this restaurant also serves Chinese and Western style dishes. Sharkfin soup is a must but I also spotted dim sum and herbal soup. Not only that, there are too many Chinese vege and meat dishes for me to choose from.

Don’t know which one to choose? Don’t decide too fast ! Western corner serves Spaghetti, steak, lamb chop and many more..  hahaha.. now you are confuse on what to eat right? That is exactly what I have in mind at that time.

I am sure you are interested in what I ordered. This time I will not tell you how I like the food but will let you decide instead. How? Some say picture represents a thousand words.. hehe..

Sashimi is a must ! Sushi is a must too but it ended up in my stomach before I even take out my camera (so no photos) :P . Osyter and scallop are also part of my starter. The crab is a disguise. I didn’t eat it but Xing did.

How to maximize your cash out with food input when you come to buffet? I didn’t eat breakfast, lunch, dinner SINCE yesterday and clean your digestive system.. hahaha.. I am just kidding lol. I’m not that cheapskate,ok?

Let’s see, got lobster, scallops, sea cucumber, crab, abalone, some fish, lamb etc. I bet the question that playing in your head is, do I have diarrhea the next day? The answer is NO.

Personally, I wouldn’t say that all the food is nice but that is normal isn’t it? I like some and don’t like some. I particularly favor the cheesy scallop and the LOBSTER!

Did you see 2 pretty girls there? I mean they look good from that angle. Dark, blocked by hair.. wait wait wait.. Who are they? I don’t know.. hehe .. what I am trying to say is they have to earn their drinks. KNOCK THE COCONUT.

That is really new to me. I literally need to take a hammer and knock a hole before I get to drink it. I drank 5 coconuts in total. Not because I like it but I like the knocking part. Hehe..

Lunch @ Ozeki Tokyo Cuisine

Live to eat or eat to live? That is the question. Is it too much to agree on both? I eat to live everyday but once in a while, I live to eat. Hehe. Many says tasty food is not a healthy food. This time, I found both tasty and healthy food. Japanese food. Statistic shows that Japanese live longer (average 80 + years old). Here is the secret ..

I went to Ozeki Tokyo Cuisine @ Jalan P.Ramlee, KL.

I would say the Wow factor here is the menu. It is so BIG. Nicely fit with the cutlery setup.

This is a perfect place for a romantic date. Either for lunch or candlelight dinner would be perfect. Although the shop is just by the roadside, the parking is not an issue. The traffic can be very bad in the evening tho, but if you work in KLCC, it is just a few steps away.

The restaurant is nicely setup with sake bottles as decorations, wooden tables with comfortable cushion chair. The service is very fast too, just nice for a quick lunch. Fast is one criteria, tasty food is the most important requirements. The beef set is my favourite but the teppanyaki chicken is a “must try”. The sauce.. yummie.. drooling even when I think about it. The presentation is astonishing.

The taste of food is hardly explained with my limited vocab. Beside saying it is delicious, yummy, actions speaks louder than words. I help the waitress to clean the dishes :P .

Lastly, nice lunch is always ended up with a fortune but in Ozeki, I consider this meal as reasonable. I manage to get the namecard to share with all of you. You will regret if you miss it.
