New First Choice Cafe Centre

Choice is easy to make when it comes between good and bad or one extreme to another. What about making a tough choice such as between good and good or bad and bad one? Tough huh? You don’t need to worry about what I have just said because I found you a New First Choice.

What exactly is that? Make your first guess as restaurant or nice place for food and you are spot on! I located this restaurant while driving around Pujut area in Miri. No eye catchy banner, no attractive appearance but my stomach was growling for more more food.

This restaurant is servings various food for breakfast but at night, it turns into a place where you can order a whole long list from the menu. So, I decided to ask waitress for a little help in ordering specialties over here.

Friendly waitress introduced me to XO Tofu. This not the XO as in hard liquor but the tofu is cooked with XO sauce. It might not appear as nice in photos but once you taste it, I am sure you will love it. I fall in love straight away and now craving for it.

Er.. this dish is not as simple as adding Tofu with XO sauce but I discovered some anchovies in it. The small anchovies just blended in nicely with XO sauce. The tofu is so soft that I suspected that it is “homemade”

The second dish is mui choy kow yuk (stew pork belly with preserved mustard cabbage). Everytime when comes to pork dish, it will be splendid. Normally it will take quite a long time to prepare this dish but surprisingly, this mui choy kow yuk is served in less than 10 min.

Is the meat hard? Nonono.. it is very soft. I don’t know how they cook it so fast (maybe they pre prepared it) but I would say the 3 layer of pork was well done.

From the photos, you can see the pork is also in right proportion between skin, fat and meat. I had really bad experience where I was served with 90% of fat and only 5% of skin and 5% of stew meat but NOT in this restaurant. Gross isn’t it?

Last but not least, the Clayport Curry Fish. This is the best dish that I tried so far in Miri. Not too spicy, slightly milky, delicious tempting and more importantly, it is freshly cooked for you. It takes about 15 for this dish to arrive but I can tell you, it is definitely worth waiting.

I brought my mom here once, if I can remember correctly and she loves this dish too. If you are not a fan of boney fish head, try to order the fish tail instead. Apparently this dish is very famous here. Almost every table will order this. Lovely!

Did I finish all? Absolutely! I even finished the gravy till the last drop. lol
