Teck Lee Bak Kut Teh

Still remember about Uncle Jerry Chic Kut Teh that serves Bak Kut Teh instead? This time, I managed to find a very old shop in Jinjang Utara that serves not only Bak Kut Teh but Sang Pow also.  This is the place that I come across that serves very nice Sang Pow.

Bak Kut Teh Teck Lee or Teck Lee Bak Kut Teh has been here in Jinjang Utara since few decades ago. If you noticed, the cook cooks many bowls per day to serves the flow of customers here. They have many repeated customers and mostly are locals. I usually come to this place with family on Sunday morning.

Instead of introducing the Bak Kut Teh, I will recommend the Sang Pow here. Sang Pow is also a claypot soupy meat dishes that requires 45 mins longer to prepare as compare to Bak Kut Teh. The ingredients are totally different from bak kut teh and Sang Pow only prepared upon request.

Normally, we call to place our order about 45 min earlier before we arrived so that the cook will have ample time to prepare it. The meat in sang pow normally will very soft if it is nicely cook. If shorter time is given, the meat will turn out to be hard and springy. The picture below shows Sang Pow and pork stew.

You might noticed that there are cuts of abalone. The abalone is not included when you ordered. That is my mom add on for the dishes. Abalone for the breakfast? Oh yea .. We have to pamper ourself once in awhile too right?

The stew pork normally served with rice and personally, I like the gravy so much that sometime I drink the gravy. Not healthy tho :P . We can request what type of meat we would like to include, either flower meat, 3 layer meat, spare parts, ribs, etc.

Together with the side order of yau char koey, We managed to completely finished the food including the soups. No food is wasted at all.

For this breakfast, I spent about RM 90.90. As expected, the bill is going to be high simply because we have 7 adults 4 kids. What important is here is not about the money but to spend time with all family members for a nice breakfast at a nice and delicious place.  Bring your family here.

Teck Wah Seafood Restaurant

Most of the Chinese restaurant usually close during lunch time and only served dinner. This is because families usually have dinner together instead of lunch. Finding a restaurant is one thing and getting a descent one for all family members to fit in are also a big issue. The restaurant need to be able to manage many peoples at one time, having a big table with Lazy Susan (especially if you have a big family) etc.

We managed to locate Teck Wah Seafood Restaurant, just few shops away from Restoran Taman Batu @ Jalan Kuching. A section of this restaurant is equipped with air condition. With air condition, it just make this place a right place to bring your family during lunch time – to avoid sweaty lunch.

As I pointed in Restoran Taman Batu @ Jalan Kuching, most of the Chinese Restaurant have pictures of food/menu on the wall. This restaurant has no exception as well.

We ordered a lot of dishes today, simply because this is a family events. Start from ginger steam fish, Tong Po Stew Pork and green vegetables. These are just a few on top of many. I particularly like the Tong Po Stew Pork. Although it is a bit oily but the way this dish is cook are amazing. It is not only taste good but the texture of the pork is soft and tendery.

Like I said, we continue to order cheong jing fish, fried onion eggs, stew homemade tofu and green vegetables. This time, they ordered my favourite cheong jing fish. This dish tastes so good that it is comparable with most of the places that serves good cheong jing fish.

The homemade tofu is rather soft. The flavor of the sauce just nicely sip into tofu that makes the tofu soft and tasty.

That is not just yet. Final dishes that we ordered is 2 styles of chickens (steam and roasted chickens). I would say the roasted chicken is my favourites because of the crispy skin but the smooth texture on steam chicken make me harder to decide.

On and on, I am very satisfied with the service and food served in this restaurant. It matched with my standard and my family just enjoyed them. The restaurant gave us a complimentary set of fruits.

We only pay about RM 249 including drinks for 16 adults and 6 kids. You must be wondering how we fit into one table ? You just have to think about the sitting arrangement. My family will recommend this place in near future.

Kedai Kopi Mee Bon

If you are Chinese, I am very sure you know what is Pau. For non chinese, Pau is almost the same like mantou. OMG. I am answering a question with another questions. What is Pau? What is mantou? Pau is a white bread or bun like with fillings while mantou is just the bread. It is a tradisional Chinese cuisine that you will mostly see people eat during breakfast.

Many places do sell Pau with various fillings starting from pork, red bean, lotus paste, kaya etc. Nowadays, Pau is so famous that many are factory made, halal and you can even find instant pau in supermarket. Question is, does it tastes good?

After a long searching, I finally manage to find tradisional home made pau in Kepong. This place is called Kedai Kopi Mee Bon. It is by the roadside and normally filled with customers on the corridor/walkway. This is a typical chinese place for breakfast, serving with hot drinks, dim sum, pau, and of course with lou mai kai (glutanious rice with soy chicken) too.

As you can see, this place is very busy especially in the morning and during tea breaks. The pau is freshly made everyday and they are steamed with conventional ratten basket.  You can dine here with hot pau or you can buy the cold pau so that you can steam them up later. What I like most about the pau here is, the filling is a lot and the pau skin is very soft. I prefer Char Siew Pau and normally I eat few at the same time.

The menu is hanging infront of the shops with the pricelist. Pretty simple but smart way to display the menu. The dim sum is ranging from RM 3.20 to RM 3.70 per plate. The normal red bean pau is RM 1.60, Big Pau (different from char siew pau in terms of the filling) is RM 3.50, Char Siew Pau is RM 1.80 and shang yok pau (3 layers pork pau) is RM 1.80.

ABC Food’s Corner

To be more diversify, it is time for me to promote Indian/Mamak Food. Most of my readers’ first impression when I mentioned about Indian food is SPICY. Well it is right to certain extend as most Indian food involve a lot of chillies, curry, sambal etc.

This restaurant located few min from my mom house. It used to be my late dad favourites. This place are famous among the residences in this areas. It operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year. It gets really really crowded during the football match but suprisingly there is no big screens here.

Funny enough, a simple ABC can be very famous here. If you cannot find the place, start by asking anyone about ABC and they will direct you there. Nothing special about the environment and table setting. It is just like a typical mamak shops.

This time I am a bit hungry. I ordered tosai, roti canai, roti telur and capati. You must be wondering that I ordered so much when I am a bit hungry. Try to imagine how much I can take when I am really really hungry :P What I like about this place is they serves many different type of curry such as fish, lamb, vegetable curries. Not to forget my favourite sambal ikan bilis here.

Besides food, I usually go for 3 color drinks (a mixture of coconut sugar, milk and tea). I like this drink so much because the sweetness is not from sugar but it is from the coconut sugar instead. Try it.

Don’t get shock when you see that I finished all of them. Actually, I bring along my mom so she helps me a little :P . All I can say is this is a right choice for my breakfast place and I will come back again. Besides all these only cost about RM 9.30 only.

Ayam Penyet @ KLCC

A lot of people ask me where I usually have my lunch? It is kind of difficult to explain because I can be adventurous sometime. Adventurous? My close friend will laugh when I said this. Usually I just follow a big crowd during normal working hours because I really have no clue where would be the best place.

On the other side, during offwork, I like to hunt for food. Sometimes, I can drive all the way to Penang to have my favourite laksa and muo chi or to Singapore to eat my favourite dumpling soup. Well, I am not driving any further this time but came across Ayam Penyet – AP in KLCC recently while doing my food hunting.

Don’t ask me what is AP stands for but I guess is Ayam Penyet :P . This stall is located on second floor in Signature foodcourt. Why I chose to blog about this stall? What so special about Ayam Penyet? Well, my maid from Indonesia used to prepare Ayam Penyet for me and I just love it. So, I guess, Ayam Penyet here is also from Indonesia but who cares? As long as it taste good right? :P

Let me remind you that the que might be very long during normal lunch hours. The service here is very fast too. Despite a lot of customer, I normally wait for about 5 min to 10 min max. The set that I usually ordered is Ayam Penyet Set Lunch. They also served empel (beef) and a whole other long list.

The set comes with Ayam (of course .. duh), tempe, boiled long beans and vegetable with cucumber and tomatoes. What you need to becareful is the sambal. It tastes good but it is really really spicy. I need to particularly emphasize on this. As a chillies lover, my tolerance against chillies is considered better than average but I nearly cry when I first taste it.

Now come to the main highlight. The chicken to me is kind of dry but I guess this is how it should be. The crunchy thinggy (I have no clue what it is) taste really good. If can, ask for more … hehe… I normally ‘wet’ my rice with the soup because the soup fits my taste.

This set only cost about RM 8.80. I wouldn’t consider this as expensive considering that you are in KLCC and the average price in this foodcourt is about RM 8. So this is a perfect lunch set for me once in awhile. Lastly, remember when I said about the chillies earlier, please take extra precaution when you order this :)

DK Tycoon Restaurant

Heard about DK before? DK = Donkey Kong used to be my favourite game when I am young (I am still young tho). The recent DK that I came across is in Tokyo Driff. Not Donkey Kong this time but is Driff King instead. Either Donkey Kong or Driff King has nothing to do with this post.. hehe ..

Today, I am going to introduce you to DK Tycoon Restaurant. DK = DucKing. This restaurant has been my favourite Friday lunch place for the past few months. What so special about this place? As you can see from the picture below, the appear in newspaper before and more importantly, they have discounts and offer most of the time :P

Recently, they have 50% discount on begger chicken for Public Bank Credit Card holder. Unfortunately, I am not one of it. So, if you have Public Bank Credit Card, let me know and I can eat with you :)

When I walk into this restaurant, it gives me a very “Grand” feeling due to high ceiling and classy lighting. The place is spacious that can handle wedding banquet or even company functions. As you can see, this place is non halal because they serve char siew – BBQ pork and siew yok – sauteed pork (my favourite) beside chicken and DUCK of course . That add to extra reason why I come to this place often.

Before you start ordering, you will be served with appetizer. This time is beancurd and long bean. The choices of appetizer will change from time to time. I tried peanuts, cucumber pickles, fried fish (I think) etc. The sambal here is very good and I love it so much. Because of this sambal, my friend called my chillies lover.

Normally I go for 4 combination or 2 combination lunch set. You can chose the type of meat you like. Erm.. maybe you will ask, you can get similar food by the roadside, why here? Simple answer to that is, you should try it and you will know. The char siu texture are soft and tender. The duck did not have a strong duck smells and taste good. Rather than explain about chicken and siu yok, you try them first and you tell me.

The 2 combination is about RM 10.80 and 4 combination is about RM 12.80. Pricy? I guess in this case I will say a little expensive but hey, you are in a big restaurant and grand environment. If this place is so expensive, I will not chose this place as regular Friday lunch place too right? Have a try on it first, I am sure you will not regret it.

Restoran Korean-Chinese @ Desa Seri Hartamas

Have you ever been to Desa Seri Hartamas? This place is so happening with a lot of shops, restaurants, fast food, mamak stalls, bars, pubs and etc. I have been staying around this area for almost a year now but I never have my lunch or dinner here.

Today, I have decided to bring along my family to have a decent Korean dinner around this area. The hunting for good restaurant is challenging because there are a lot of Korean and Japanese restaurants. Finally after a few minutes of searching, we decided to resort in Restoran Korean-Chinese.

The restaurant is located on first floor and you have to take a lift to reach the main entrance. The restaurant looks usual from the outside but it is really cosy on the inside. The setup is Korean-Chinese Style with nice hanging lights. The calm and classy ambience just make it a perfect place to bring your family along.

The waiter immediately serves you with famous Korean Kim Chi, pickles, onions and guide you to the secret of making a good dip sauce. The dip sause is generally a mixture of korean soy sauce with vinegar and chillies powder. Every table is serves with 2 bottles of plain water with nice serviette as the table settings.

The menu is printed in both English and Korean. I have to admit that I have difficulties in ordering for nice dishes as I am not familiar with the food descriptions.   So, I decided to ask the waiter to recommend some signature dishes.

We ended up with stir fried chicken with hot sauce, stir fried mixed seafood and vegetables, noodles with black soy bean sauce, fried rice with vegetable and seafood. All these food are so tempting and delicious. I particularly like the fried chicken with hot sauce. Don’t worry, it is not so spicy.

I tried Korean food before. I tried Chinese food before. These combination of Korean and Chinese style mix perfectly. My mom enjoys the food very much.

After the main dishes, we were served with special dessert which I have no clue what it called and watermelon. This is a complimentary dishes from chef. The mango is not part of the dessert from the restaurant but it is a home grown mango that my mom patiently sliced for all of us :)

I must say the food serve are just nice for 5 adults. All five of us managed to comfortably finish the food with no leftover. Not even the dessert. The Kim Chi and pickes are free flow. So, don’t be surprise if you see some leftover. The waiter keep topping for you and more importantly, it is free.

We spend about RM 135.30 for this dinner. I am sure most of you will say it is expensive but I can tell you, the price here is reasonble. With the good quality of food and service, I will come back to this place again. This restaurant also provide delivery service for lunch and dinner.
