The Expendables

If you read my movie review on The Last Airbender, I mentioned it is only Saturday and still have one more day before I call a week. I managed to watch this movie on Sunday itself and that complete my week with 3 cinema movies (Vampires SuckThe Last Airbender, The Expendables), 6 DVDs (The A-Team, Repo Man, Death at a Funeral, Nanny McPhee & The Big Bang, Flirting Scholar 2 and The Legend is Born – Ip Man) and 1 chinese series (Pu Song Ling – love story of man and wolf girl).

Familliar with Sylvester Stallone? If you are not familliar with him, probably you heard about RAMBO and ROCKY? If you still don’t know who he is, let me try to recall your memories. Ohh.. he also appeared in Demolition Man (1993), Judge Dredd (1995),Spy Kids 3D: Game Over (2003) and the most recent one is RAMBO (2008). I am speechless if you still don’t know who he is.

If I keep blogging about movies .. I guess my readers will be so tired of it. So many nice movies nowadays. Many times when I watch movies, I always wanted to see all the famous actor/actress in the same movies. NOW, I found one … That is why I chose to blog this movie although I watched others too. It is called The Expandables.

Stallone is the director for this latest movie The Expendables. All the famous actors like Sylvester Stallone (RAMBO), Jason Statham (Transporter), Jet Li (Kiss of the Dragon), Dolph Lundgren (Universal Soldier), Randy Couture (famous wrestler), Steve Austin (The Longest Yard), Terry Crews (White Chicks), Mickey Rourke (Ironman 2) and Bruce Willis (Die Hard) were acting in this movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator & Governor of California) did dropped by too !

Source: IMDB

Having all these hardcore action actors, what you can expect are a lot of blood, violent, big gun fights, fighting but one thing that I never expect is Humor. Have you see Jet Li jokes? He is making this movie more lively in the softer way. Everyone burst out of laughter with his ”Chinese” jokes.

I didn’t expect a good storyline and I was spot on. The storyline is so so only but a lot of hardcore actions (I meant war, gun fights :P ) and many times you get to see blood splashing everywhere (they must spend a lot of money on blood) and of coz martial arts. Below are the cool scene that I like most about the movie.

This movie is the type of movie that must watch in cinema because of the sound effects (Sound of GUN). I managed to dig the trailer to share with you. Enjoy !

The Last Airbender

We heard a lot about Shoppaholic previously. Confessions of a Shopaholic is one of the nice movie. I have a confession to make too. I guess I have problems with holic. I am a movieholic and I like to drink Horlicks :P

This week only, I watched 2 movies in cinema, few movies on dvd, 2 chinese series and wow.. today is only Saturday and still got 1 more days to go before the new week. Previously I posted about Vampire Sucks. Now is The Last Airbender. Check out the coolest posters I managed to find.

 Source: IMDB

If you don’t know about this movies, M. Night Shyamalan wrote, directed and produced a lot of quality movies. I am sure you heard about Six Sense and The Stuart Little? The recent movies before these movies are :

The Last Airbender is based on a animated cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender. Aang (Noah Ringer), the Avatar airbender is trying to stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air Nations. Ops .. I shouldn’t tell all the nice storylines and let you explore yourself.

In my opinion, this is the best movie that Shyamalan ever produced beside Six Sense. This movie gives a lot of cool effects and the translation from animated cartoon to real movie is just so wonderful. I like this scene very much but I never thought how they do it? Put some glow in dark ink ??? :P

Not just that, I particularly like “the multipurpose vehicle”, flying bison, Appa. It can fly, it can walk, it can swim in ice cold water and it is just so cool. Also, the flying momo too. I don’t know what that is but I think it is a kind of extinct giant fruit bat ??

This movie is worth watching and I suggest that you watch in cinema if you are keen in cool 3D effects and surround systems. I purposely did not mentioned all the nice and exciting scenes simply because I want you to experience first hand.

Here is the trailer.

Pokemon Noodles House

My nephew is a crazy fan of Pokemon. He always pika here and pika there. What can I do with this 4 years old? A bit annoying when I tried to catch some nap and when I work on something serious. Sometimes, his actions are just so cute and that is also how I learned about almost all the cartoon characters, not just limited to Pokemon only.

Knowing that I am abit paranoid with Pokemon, my friend claims that there is a restaurant called Pokemon Noodles House. Thought he is pulling my leg, so I put a bet of RM 10 and I lost it.. sigh..

The Pokemon Noodles House actually exist in Taman Seri Sinar, Kepong, about 7 min drive from Mont Kiara. The noodles house is very famous in this area and the place is usually crowded over the weekend. Many decided to have breakfast with family here.

This noodles house specialties are Pan Mee. They serve varities of Pan Mee including plain soup pan mee, loh pan me, assam pan mee, spicy pan mee, dry pan mee and tom yam pan mee.   Over here you have a choice of hand made or machine made pan mee. The price is ranging from RM 4-4.50 for small bowl and RM 4.50-5 for big bowl. Even a small bowl is big for me !

I ordered loh pan mee, tom yam pan mee and plain pan mee to give a try. The plain pan mee tastes better than most places, the loh pan mee and tom yam pan mee are very new to me. I tried tom yam before, I tried pan mee before but combination taste of those 2 in one bowl are just so amazing. Apparently, this place serves fish cake too which cost about RM 4 per piece.

Don’t get shock when I finished all three bowl. It is not that I finished all three by myself. I have two helpers with me :P

This place closes every fortnight on Thursday and starts operating from 8am – 4 pm daily. If this place is nearby at your place, feel free to drop by.

Vampire Sucks

Blogging about movies is always fun. As a movie lover, I enjoy pretty much spending most of my time watching movies. It can be at cinema, at home, friend’s house, mom’s house .. bla bla bla..

Recently, most of the movies show a level of qualities in terms of picture effects, sound systems and even 3D effects. Cool and impressive. Once in a while, some funny movies (humor movies) are worth watching. Good or bad? It is up to u? Good storylines? Nah.. I don’t think so, but considering they give you some laughter, funny moments, I will not complain much.

Recently, Jason Friedberg just directed Vampires Suck. Judging from his background and the movie title, it is another movie like Epic Movies, Disaster Movies and Meet the Spartan. If you miss all the three movies I mentioned earlier, I managed to dig some of the old posters from my archive folders.

All these movies have something in common, they are funny, dumb and more importantly, you need to watch hell lots of movies related to the movies scenes. If you prefer good storylines, good movies effects, serious and romantic movies, I suggest that you don’t waste your time here. All these movies have nothing close to all that.

Vampires Suck ?? First thing that come to my mind when I read this title is, vampires suck, I mean suck blood suck or the movie sucks. I guess this movie is a bit of both. The storyline is almost the same like the Twilight but I am seriously impress in the way how they connect/relate those interesting scene.

Source: IMDB

This movie really make me burst out of laughter many times. Quality of the jokes? I would say some are really good and nicely fit in but some are really silly. Put Tobasco sauce before biting human being? kinda creative in most of the jokes. Sometimes I wonder if the director continue to laugh and laugh when he directed the movie or he is already numb ?

Here is the nice scene that I like about this movies? Just a chihuahua? Well, you will find out more on why I like this scene so much when you watch the movie yourself. Bear in mind that although it is a very small dog, chihuahua actually thinks that they are very big. I have a chihuahua before and I know it well. (it can even barks at big dog, 5x bigger than their own size).

Here I include the trailer for your watching pleasure.

Uncle Jerry Chic Kut Teh

Many of us know about Bak Kut Teh (pork bone tea ??.. direct translation.. hehe). I am not sure how many of you heard about Chic Kut Teh (chicken bone tea). Generally both ingredients/chinese herbs are the same except the main ingredient in Bak Kut Teh is from pork and Chic Kut Teh is from chicken. duh..

Thinking of having vegetarian food (trying to stay healthy) for dinner at first, led me to discover Uncle Jerry Chic Kut Teh. As you know, I am a meat lover. How can I survive without pork ? Chic Kut Teh is new to me and I am thinking of giving it a try.

Uncle Jerry Chick Kut Teh is located near May May Ais Kacang. The shop is without air condition – so be prepared to get sweaty ! This place can get crowded sometime that customer has to seat at the corridor.

Despite it is called Uncle Jerry Chic Kut Teh, Chick Kut Teh is not part of the menu. The main menu are Bak Kut Teh, Pokari – Pork Leg Stew, Stomach Pepper Soup, Mushroom Ginger Chicken, Pepper Chicken, Kampung Drunken Chicken, Taucu King Ribs and Vinegal Porkleg.

Considering I am a meat lover, I ordered bak kut teh. What so special about this bak kut teh? i) sit on top of the menu list ii) it is pork and not chicken iii) it serves with fried onion rice.. yummie..

Normally, Bak Kut Teh is famous with the soup itself but drinking the soup will make u very thirsty. Simply because they put too much MSG (monosodium glutamate). Uncle Jerry bak kut teh is otherwise. It did not make me feel thirsty.

Another yummie dish is called Pokari – Pork Leg Stew. The stew pork leg serves with hard boiled egg. The taste is just awesome. The sause + the fried onion rice just very nice.  The portions are just nice for 2 persons.

I only ordered 2 dishes this time and still have many more to go. I will come back again to try Stomach Pepper Soup, Mushroom Ginger Chicken, Pepper Chicken, Kampung Drunken Chicken, Taucu King Ribs and Vinegal Porkleg. For Bak Kut Teh + Pokari – Porkleg Stew + 2 dried onion rice + one yau char kuey only cost me about RM 24.90 (good deal for meat dishes)

Uncle Jerry Chic Kut Teh open everyday from 4 – 11 pm. It closes on every Wednesday. My personal experience tell me to avoid going on Sunday night because i) there is a pasar malam ii) hardly find parking iii) place will probably be crowded iv) you have to sit by the roadside v) the passerby will keep looking at what you eat !

Beside that, I have to say that this is indeed a great meat place on normal days.

May May Ais Kacang

I am sure many locals know about Ais Kacang or ABC (Air Batu Campur). Ais Kacang is a famous traditional Malay dessert. When talk about ice kacang as traditional Malay deserts, the questions is, how the traditional Malay get the ice from when they are in a hot and humid country with no fridge? :-P . This question has been bugging me for quite some time already. Perhaps, anyone can help me out.

Not to dwell too much in details, let me bring you to May May Ais Kacang Stall @ Kepong. This is just a normal hawker stall by the roadside that serves nice ice kacang.

Don’t expect a good hygiene at this place because sometimes, you will get to see some exotic animals such as mouse running around. Nah.. not that bad, you will only see them when you are really lucky.

This place serve many choices of desserts, ice kacang, bubur cha cha, cendol mango ais and many more. The price are ranging from 2.60 to about RM 6 depending on what you ordered.

Instead of hanging out at expensive places, maybe you can try at this place. It get crowded especially on the weekend and this place close on every Thursday. So, try it out !

Restoran Taman Batu @ Jalan Kuching

Translation of words are so funny sometime. e.g. Joystick = batang gembira? (don’t think aside ya :P ). Let me not dig into details on what comes to your mind. This translation thinggy just happen to came across my mind when I visited Taman Batu. Sound awkward right ? dull? If the name change to Rock Garden, hmm.. maybe it sounds nicer..

While driving in this neighbourhood, my hungry mode kicks in. Not to mention that I am not familliar with this area, I have no clue where to find a proper meal. In the midst of searching, this restaurant caught my sight. It is called Restoran Taman Batu.

From the outside, it looks like normal and ordinary Chinese restaurant. When I walked in, it is also like a normal Chinese restaurant… hehe.. if you have been to most of the Chinese restaurants, you will know what I mean. Table with red or yellow cloth, normal plastic chair, teapot and more importantly, the pictures menu on the wall. So it will not be a problem if you don’t speak Chinese – you can just point !

Speaking of good and delicious Cheong Jing fish in my last post at Restoran Tai Dee @ Kepong, this restaurant do serves Cheong Jing fish too. I ordered one cin cai (if you read my previous post, you will know what I meant), Cheong Jing fish,  steam eggs with soy sause and home made tofu. Funny enough, you will find most of the Chinese Restaurant serves home made tofu. It is really homemade? er..er.. I have no comments on that.

Despite not knowing the place well, all the 4 dishes that I ordered taste real good. The portions are just nice for 4. From chatting with the restaurant owner, I learned that the place usually get very crowded during the dinner time. The weekend or weekdays have no exceptions. Sometimes you have to queue for the seat.

Although I am new to that restaurant, I didn’t get slaughter after a good meals. All the nice dishes with drinks only cost about RM 63.40 for 4 pax. We all managed to finish all the food on tables before we continue our journey to hunt for more food so that we can share more with you next time.

Restoran Sam You @ Seri Kembangan

One good thing of being Chinese is, we like to eat. Every family gathering, birthday party, graduation party, anniversary and even wedding dinner, will involve eating… eating… and eating… Everytime when the food are served, it will be cleared in less than 10 mins. Everyone is like starving for ages. That is why it makes food blogging so difficult. I have to keep stopping them from disturbing my “Konica” (photo) moments with the food.

Some tips on that, don’t use SLR. Just use point and shoot ! Basically you have a very limited time before someone starts to say, ” Aiya, food oso want to take arr ? Take after we finish laa”. So please bear with me if the pictures are not attractive enough.

We just have our family gathering in Restoran Sam You, Seri Kembangan. The restaurant is just by the roadside, 5 min drive from Mines Wonderland. I have been to this place for many times and everytime, that place is full with cars and people. They even hire car jockey because it will get congested. When I say congested, It is really congested.

Main criterias for choosing restaurant for family events are the place has to be cheap (if you can find, that will be perfect) and good. Or else, every uncle and auntie will repeat the same old stories again and again and never ending. :P . Restoran Sam You recently offer RM 1 for Crispy Piglet if you order either RM 298 + or RM 398 + Set Menu. The offer will be valid until the 31 August 2010. That is the reason we chose here this time.. hehe..

The environment is just too noisy considering everyone treats that place as gathering place. Most of the table setup can fit approx 10 pax or 10 + 2 pax (kids). This place is clean and bright too. It has 2 different stories to cater for the high number of customer every night.

We ordered the RM 298+ set with 2 bottles of carbonated drinks (free). Good deal but let us see the dishes first. The dishes are 4 seasons (although there are more than 4 dishes in one big plate), steam garupa fish, mix vegetables, 2 taste prawn, sharkfins, fried unpolished rices and honey sea coconuts with longans. I particularly like the 4 seasons, sharkfins and 2 taste prawn.

The highlight is the roasted piglets. Everyone on the tables claims that this is the best deal they have ever tried. RM 1 for one piglet. This is the first time I tried the unpolished fried rice. I only tried a few spoons considering that I have load up myself with other dishes. There is nothing special about the rice from the look of it, but it tastes good.

Like I said, for every dinner evens, everyone are very very hungry. At the end, we managed to finish all the dishes including the last drop of shark fins soup. They also managed to clean the rice till the very last grains (the picture below taken before someone “clean it” up). I am not sure if they really like it or hungry but they just said, don’t waste food la. Which I AGREE too. :)

As I mentioned earlier, this promotion will expired on 31 August 2010. If you interested in getting the RM 1 piglet, make sure you reserve the place earlier.

McDonald’s GCB

I guess no need for me to say much when it comes to McDonald’s. It is a famous fast food chain in the world of course. Yeah .. when we talk about McDonald’s, we talk about burger. Big Mac, Double Cheeseburger, Fillet-O-Fish, McChicken and many more. I usually go for Sausage McMuffin with Egg for my breakfast and Double Cheeseburger with fries (my favorite) when I decided to have a quick lunch.

Having dinners in airport are always pricy. We usually take our dinner first to avoid spending more for the same quality of food. Besides, there are not many options especially in LCCT Terminal. Recently, they just built a food court which is about 5 min walk from the main terminal. Most of the stalls are still closed for renovations and they are currently serving limited choice of food.

The McDonald’s at LCCT on the other hand, are always full with customers. The down side of having so many customers is the limited seats. Not only you have to wait for your seat but you also have to wait for a long que to purchase the meals. It is not because the service is slow, but the customers are just too many.

This time, I decided to hop in to McDonald’s. All because of the new burger called GCB – It’s love of first bite. I am not a person that buy into the marketing gimmick but this is otherwise.

Although, I still don’t know what the GCB stands for but who cares. This burger is very yummie and I like this even more than Double Cheeseburger.

A GCB set meal consists of standard fries, drink and GCB burger. A Grilled Chicken Thigh with lettuce and Char-grilled Sause are just the right ingredients to make the burger special. By just adding the chilli sauce or tomato ketchup to the burger, the tastes are just perfectly blend.

The first bite experience is just so amazing. I never thought that grilled chicken thigh can be so good.  The taste must be from the Char-grilled sause. It is true indeed I fall in love on the first bite.

I am not sure about the price for this burger set at other places, but in LCCT, it costs me about RM28.45 for 2 sets. They are abit pricy as compared to other burger set but trying this once in a while is just splendid. This burger only available on limited time only. So, GRAB it while stock last. I am going to hunt for mine too.

Restoran Tai Dee @ Kepong

It is always a hassle to find a right place for dinner. Do you agree ? Good food are everywhere but WHERE actually? Sometimes, it takes me about few hours to drive around to find a suitable place for nice and cheap food. Nice and Cheap?  I can easily find cheap food, mamak stall is one of it but finding nice and cheap food is a big challenge.

Everytime, when you hope for your friend to bring you to nice places, they will end up saying “cin cai” la .. If you know mandarin, probably you will think of ’green vegetables’  but it is actually means “anything”. Lesson learnt is, the next time you plan to open a food stall, name it CIN CAI. I am sure you will get unconditional customers and free publicity.  hehe.

If you cannot think of a place or not wanting cin cai, go to BIG BROTHER. Don’t worry, this is not the Gangster or Mafia BIG BROTHER. This shop is called Restoran Tai Dee. Tai Dee = BIG BROTHER in mandarin. The restaurant is located in Kepong, not a super high class restaurant but you can get a decent with cheap and nice food.

As part of respecting elderly or friends, you will start to ask them what they plan to eat. AGAIN, they will replied “cin cai” la. So, many times, I ended ordering green vegetables as one of the must dish. If they said cin cai again, I will say, “I already ordered it. Anything else? “. Good thing is, I get to ordered all food that I like and this time, I ordered few delicious dishes.

As a meateater and “chu yok” (pork) lover, I ordered Marmite Pork, cin cai (not a fan of green vegetables tho), ”Cheong Jing” (steam salted) fish and home made tofu. I know a lot guys like to eat “tofu” (taking advantage of girls) too .. hehe .. Since I am a guy too, I am one of them. Ops ! What I mean is I like to eat the real tofu. This deep fried home made tofu is very tasty. It serves with thai chili sause.

The fish is my favorite of all. The sause is the perfect combination of spicy+salty+sweet+sour. Sometimes, only the sause with rice is already fulfilling. So, if you are broke, just tell the boss, “Boss give me one big bowl of rice, with Cheong Jing sause. Try it, if you don’t believe me.

Always actions speak louder than words. Four of us managed to finish all the dishes including the fish sause. It only cost us about RM 51 including drinks (average of RM 13 per person) and you get fish, meat, vegetables and tofu. Nice and cheap place indeed. Oh ya.. this restaurant provide catering services too. Satisfy with my dinner and now, let me share with you some details of the restaurant.
