It is always easier to make decision when there is not much of a choice. What if you have plenty and plenty and plenty of alternatives? I bet the decision making is not as easy as it can be.

Everyone talks about smart consumer. How smart is smart or it is just another myth to make ourself look smarter. Buying car for instance, there are too many different brands, price ranges, packages, bla bla bla and bla bla bla. Same goes for choosing Mobile Prepaid.

Which telco should we go for then?

Let me ask this, how many of you really detailed the mobile package before getting one? What rate are you currently paying or what tariff plan that you are getting? Any benefits in longer run? Did you compare among telco? I can bet that majority will say, I DON’T KNOW. Aren’t all the same?

The answer is NO.  Being ignorant will only get more and more consumers confuse with various marketing gimmicks that ended up making us pay even more. As a real smart consumer, we should start to question or at least to debate about the pros/cons of telco services especially in Malaysia.

To save your time, I have summarized some products package for comparison.

As much as many have the impression that prepaid is more convenient, more flexibility, various cheaper rate offered by other telco, bla bla bla, this is an example of another successful marketing/advertising strategies but have a look closely.

10 sen/10 kb for data? Rough calculations shows that 1mb of data = 1000 kb data which cost about RM 10! Isn’t that a ripe off? Unlimited internet access for landline only cost about RM 88/month and you know what, 1mb = 2 pictures!

Surprisingly, Telco T is charging only 5 sen. What is telco T? Finally, I see some light towards cheaper communications, Telco T is actually Tune Talk Mobile Prepaid.

From the comparison table, it is pretty obvious that Tune Talk provides greater deal. Besides, all rates are flat rates of 16 sen/min, 5 sen/sms and 5 sens/MB data, Tune Talk is the only telco that provides AWESOME BENEFITS such as:

  • Free RM100,000 Personal Accidental Insurance Coverage underwritten by Etiqa
  • Earn Tune Talk points for AirAsia flights for every top up (only Telco that rewards you with free Air Asia flights). Points NEVER expire.
  • Option to change your number anytime
  • Super low flat rates nationwide to any number, anytime.

Honestly, I don’t even believe when I hear about this. I bet you have the same feeling too. So, I decided to try Tune Talk Prepaid Mobile myself. Unlike other telco that confuse customers with different services and different rates, Tune Talk is pretty straight forward with all rates are flat rates.

For the pass one month, I am very happy with Tune Talk especially with the broad network coverage. No worries about no receptions anymore! This is because Tune Talk is running on Celcom network, who is believed to have the broadest coverage nationwide. Also, it is indeed cheaper to make phone calls out, surfing the net, and sms.

On the downside, Tune Talk did not run on 3G but run on 2.5G instead. The subscribers are only limited to only EDGE. This makes the mobile browsing appears to be slightly slower. However, EDGE in Malaysia appears to be more stable as compare to 3G. So, this is actually not a downside after all.

Overall, I have made a right decision to try out Tune Mobile, a telco with pretty straight forward “all rates are flat rates”, widest coverage, AWESOME Benefits and more importantly cheaper than many other telco out there. I am a “REAL” smart consumer. Are you?
